Dear Fellow Puentistas,

“Let me say, at the risk of seeming ridiculous, that the true revolutionary is guided by great feelings of love. “  Che Guevara

Today, we celebrate and remember the powerful and enduring life force that Luis Garden Acosta, our founder,  was and will always be. In the few months since his passing, there has been an incredible outpouring of love, respect and profound gratitude for the visionary, leader, mentor, comrade and friend that Luis was to so many– a true testament to the depth and breadth of his humanity and commitment to inspire and nurture leaders for peace and justice

In this spirit, we invite you all to join the El Puente community as we launch a year long legacy tribute to Luis which will include a series of events and actions highlighting the crucial social justice agenda and human rights initiatives he devoted his life to, and that El Puente continues to forge. It is our hope that all of you who have been, and continue to be, part of this rich legacy will have the opportunity to share, vision and celebrate with us.

The year long legacy tribute will culminate in a public “Celebration of Life” memorial on his birthday in March 2020.

Feliz Cumpleaños Luis
Pa’lante siempre Pa’lante!

Puerto Rican Day Parade

We were honored and proud to walk in the National, as well as Bushwick’s 1st annual Puerto Rican Day Parade.

We are proud to announce that our dearest founder, Luis Garden Acosta, was honored this May by RAICES at their gala. The award was accepted by our own Dr. Frances Lucerna, Co-founder & Executive Director.

The presentation included these lovely words by Lisette Sosa-Dickson, the Executive Director of the Spanish Speaking Elderly Council - RAICES:

Luis embodied the love, compassion, sacrifice, and dedication many of us strive to provide to our community through our daily work.
The mission of both organizations have been intentional about providing critical services and access to quality resources to improve the lives of their respective constituents...
We are confident that the leadership of El Puente will continue to keep his spirit and legacy very much alive through their continued work within the community.
Community-based organizations like RAICES will also continue to be intentional about our work to uplift marginalized communities not only in Brooklyn but throughout the country.
