The El Puente Williamsburg Leadership Center in Williamsburg, Brooklyn is an arts and enrichment program for high school youth. The Williamsburg Leadership Center is part of El Puente, a community organization that also conducts advocacy, organizing and health & wellness activities for the community.  El Puente programs focus on the integration of a community consciousness and artistic development that allows its members to experience their creative potential while learning about social responsibility.

SECURITY / RECEPTIONIST RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be an enthusiastic, fun, energetic, and cheerful person
  • Have strong communications skills (in-person and on phone) and professional demeanor
  • Be a punctual and dependable person.
  • Answer telephones an transfer calls throughout the building
  • Monitor who enters and leaves the building: greet them as they enter, make sure they have business there, & sign visitors’ log
  • Keep track of all department activities in the building (knowing which staff are in the building, what meetings/special events are taking place, etc.)
  • Direct visitors, staff and participants to the right locations
  • Coordinate with Program Directors and/or Coordinator on maintaining appropriate security measures around building
  • Engage with youth, staff, and guests, monitor activity, to ensure participants are safe and respectful
  • Handle situations safely & respectfully; situations may include disrespectful/disruptive behavior by a young person or adult, etc.
  • Work with staff to create and maintain systems of safety for all staff and members in the building
  • Keep accurate data and records using online systems.
  • Make decisions using data and numbers
  • Keep accurate records of participant attendance.
  • Work with staff to mentor and support youth, as well as to create a safe, supervised, and welcoming environment
  • Work in a team with all the Staff of the El Puente Williamsburg Leadership Center
  • Support all departments located at the site
  • Support the Operations/Human Resources Department with some administrative activities

Group Worker Job Description
The El Puente Leadership Center at Williams Plaza is an enrichment program for elementary and middle school youth. Jonathan Williams Leadership Center is a part of El Puente, a community organization that also conducts advocacy, organizing and health & wellness activities for the community. El Puente program focuses on the integration of a community consciousness and artistic development that allows its members to experience their creative potential while learning about social responsibility.

El Puente at Williams Plaza offers after school academic support and extra-curricular activities to youth and adults from our community, as well as a summer program. We are currently seeking individuals to serve as Group Leaders the support they need during the facilitation of activities. They would also serve as escorts for young children to their activities.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside the Group Leaders and Facilitators on/off site during hours of operation of the Program.
  • Help escort youth to center from school, as well as home.
  • Guide youth through Homework assistance making sure to complete homework daily.
  • Creation of a safe environment conducive to learning for youth.
  • Assist in supervision of members during outings and trips.
  • Work collaboratively with staff and youth in creating projects.
  • Attend regular staff and supervision meetings.
  • Participate in staff development.
  • Keep accurate records of youth attendance.
  • Escort youth to and from different activities on-site.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and practice of youth development.
  • Strong facilitation skills, working with youth and adults.

Dance Facilitator

The El Puente Beacon Leadership Center in Williamsburg, Brooklyn is an arts and enrichment program for elementary and middle school youth. The leadership center works with youth in grades 1st – 8th. Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent mandatory. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Must be able to provide a current medical form and pass fingerprinting requirements of DOH and DOE.
  • Must be trained in Salsa, Street Jazz, Contemporary, and Modern Dance. Ballet training is strongly preferred.
  • At least two years of teaching Dance with elementary and middle school students.
  • Familiarity with New York City High School Audition process for performing arts programs.

Requirements

  • Provide a holistic and nurturing environment for youth.
  • Design curriculum that integrates dance with theme based projects, especially social justice issues.
  • Coordinate class pieces for presentations at least three times a year.

Science and Math Tutor/Staff facilitator

Description: The El Puente Williamsburg Leadership Center is an after-school youth & community development program that focuses on holistic leadership development, arts for social change; academic enrichment for youth ages 13-19. The plan of action for the program consist of advocacy, organizing and health & wellness activities for the community. This program focuses on the integration of human rights consciousness and artistic development, that allows its members to experience their creative potential while learning about social responsibility.

El Puente’s Membership Model requires youth to commit to active participation within a structure designed to meet their varied developmental needs. Membership is the foundation of its mentoring & youth development programs, a process rooted in the organization’s mission to nurture and inspire leadership for peace & justice. 

This position: As a tutor you are to facilitate homework help and provide content-specific academic support in math and science to help students move towards academic and intellectual mastery (1-on-1 or in small groups). This position is scheduled to begin during the fall 2017 academic school year, with a minimum requirement of 10-12 hours per week, with a starting rate of $15 an hour.  

  • Individuals must have the ability to teach middle and high school in all general subjects including  math or science.
    • High School science include but are not limited to  (chemistry, biology, earth science, and physics).
    • High School math subjects include but are not limited to (algebra, geometry, and trigonometry).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Encourage youth to improve or strengthen their academic skills, as well as teach youth effective approaches to studying.  
  • Create a test-prep curriculum.
  • Coordinate with program and school-based staff for portfolio presentations and exam prep.
  • Collaborate with other program staff to facilitate college prep activities such as interview skills, essay writing, application completion, site visits, etc. 
  • Design/coordinate presentations individually or collaboratively with facilitators within and across all EP programs.
  • Perform administrative duties such as attending supervision/professional development meetings, maintaining attendance reports and conducting youth program evaluations.
  • Participate in a team approach of mentoring youth through a membership support process.
  • Participate in El Puente’s human rights activities.
  • Spanish language skills desirable.

El Puente Leadership Center @ Williams Plaza
Assistant Director

Description: The El Puente Leadership Center @ Williams Plaza is an enrichment program elementary/middle school/high school youth, as well as adults. The Center is apart of El Puente, a community organization that conducts advocacy, organizing and health & wellness activities for the community. El Puente program focuses on the integration of a community consciousness and artistic development that allows its members to experience their creative potential while learning about social responsibility.

As a staff member of El Puente, the Assistant Director is expected to uphold and work within the mission, philosophy and principles of the organization. She/he must work with the Director and other staff members to: design & manage a holistic arts & academic enrichment program; ensure the integrity of El Puente’s Membership Process; and to achieve expected contractual outcomes.

Description:

Administration and Operations (40% time spent)

  • Work with the Director to oversee and create administrative systems that meet the needs of the program (including but not limited to staff/participant filing systems, data entry, attendance records, contact lists).
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, organizational and funder policies/protocols.
  • Supervise the management of Administrator-On-Duty (AOD) responsibilities including the overseeing of program day-to-day operations, communications and safety practices, building operations, and closeout of building at the end of programming.
  • Supervise the management of staff scheduling.
  • Supervise the management of administrative correspondence (regular reports to funders, etc.) on behalf of the program.
  • Attend appropriate staff and team meetings, workshops, and events.
  • Learn the upkeep of program finances including but not limited to: invoices, check requests, timesheets, budget, and fundraising.

Program Development and Leadership (50% time spent)

  • Work with the Director to develop and implement year-round community center programming: afterschool program summer programming, co-locaters, teen/adult programming that reflect El Puente’s Mission and 12 Principles, fulfill contractual objectives, and are structured, age appropriate, and project based.
  • Supervise Staff making sure they understand whom their supervisors are and are being provided with regular feedback and assessment.
  • Supervise that curricula for activities, workshops and community service projects related to the El Puente model of youth mentoring and leadership development, in areas such as health and wellness, academic enrichment, engagement in the arts, and social justice issues are being met.
  • Work with the Director to develop, schedule and/or facilitate professional development activities for staff.
  • Be able to oversee and facilitate classes with large and small groups of students.
  • Support outdoor fieldtrips by managing paperwork (bookings, train passes, directions) and covering appropriate staff to student ratios.

Recruitment and External Relations (10% time spent)

  • Co­lead the design and implementation of a multi­faceted strategy for participant recruitment and outreach, to include: developing and maintaining partnerships with principals and staff at local schools; street and community outreach.
  • Work with the Director in developing and maintaining partnerships with local community, civic and cultural organizations that could potentially provide resources to the program.
  • Work alongside the Director with developing a parent involvement and support.

Membership is the foundation of its mentoring & youth development programs, a process rooted in the organization’s mission to nurture and inspire leadership for peace & justice. 

This position: As a tutor you are to facilitate homework help and provide content-specific academic support in math and science to help students move towards academic and intellectual mastery (1-on-1 or in small groups). This position is scheduled to begin during the fall 2017 academic school year, with a minimum requirement of 10-12 hours per week, with a starting rate of $15 an hour.  

  • Individuals must have the ability to teach middle and high school in all general subjects including  math or science.
    • High School science include but are not limited to  (chemistry, biology, earth science, and physics).
    • High School math subjects include but are not limited to (algebra, geometry, and trigonometry).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Encourage youth to improve or strengthen their academic skills, as well as teach youth effective approaches to studying.  
  • Create a test-prep curriculum.
  • Coordinate with program and school-based staff for portfolio presentations and exam prep.
  • Collaborate with other program staff to facilitate college prep activities such as interview skills, essay writing, application completion, site visits, etc. 
  • Design/coordinate presentations individually or collaboratively with facilitators within and across all EP programs.
  • Perform administrative duties such as attending supervision/professional development meetings, maintaining attendance reports and conducting youth program evaluations.
  • Participate in a team approach of mentoring youth through a membership support process.
  • Participate in El Puente’s human rights activities.
  • Spanish language skills desirable.
