SEEKING:  PROGRAM DIRECTOR

The El Puente Williamsburg Leadership Center in Williamsburg, Brooklyn is an arts and enrichment program for high school youth. The Williamsburg Leadership Center is part of El Puente, a community organization that also conducts advocacy, organizing and health & wellness activities for the community.  El Puente programs focus on the integration of a community consciousness and artistic development that allows its members to experience their creative potential while learning about social responsibility.

PROGRAM DIRECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Administration and Operations

  • Work with the Program Coordinator to oversee and create administrative systems that meet the needs of the program (including but not limited to staff/participant filing systems, data entry, attendance records, contact lists).
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, organizational and funder policies/protocols.
  • Supervise the management of Administrator-On-Duty (AOD) responsibilities including the overseeing of program day-to-day operations, communications and safety practices, building operations, and closeout of building at the end of programming. As well as support as an emergency AOD when need be.
  • Supervise the management of staff scheduling.
  • Supervise the management of administrative correspondence (regular reports to funders, etc.) on behalf of the program.
  • Attend appropriate staff and team meetings, workshops, and events.
  • Manage the upkeep of program finances including but not limited to: invoices, check requests, time sheets, budget, and fundraising.

Program Development and Leadership

  • Work with the Program Coordinator to develop and implement year-round community center programming: after school program summer programming, co-locators, teen/adult programming that reflect El Puente’s Mission and 12 Principles, fulfill contractual objectives, and are structured, age appropriate, and project based.
  • Supervise, support, and provide regular feedback and assessment to the Program Coordinator, as well as supervising that all staff understands whom their supervisors are and are being provided with regular feedback and assessment.
  • Supervise that curricula for activities, workshops and community service projects related to the El Puente model of youth mentoring and leadership development, in areas such as health and wellness, academic enrichment, engagement in the arts, and social justice issues are being met.
  • Work with the Program Coordinator to develop, schedule and/or facilitate professional development activities for staff.

Recruitment and External Relations

  • Co-­lead the design and implementation of a multifaceted strategy for participant recruitment and outreach, to include: developing and maintaining partnerships with principals and staff at local schools; street and community outreach.
  • Work with the Program Coordinator in developing and maintaining partnerships with local community, civic and cultural organizations that could potentially provide resources to the program.
  • Work alongside the Program Coordinator with developing a parent involvement and support.

SECURITY / RECEPTIONIST QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4 year degree
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in coordinating tutoring/ academic support programs and facilitating college prep activities for youth ages 13-19.
  • Demonstrated experience in and commitment to youth and community development, organizing and movement building for peace and justice.
  • Strong management and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to handle multiple tasks independently, as well as in teams.
  • Experience with and/or the ability to learn online database systems.
  • Spanish proficiency desired

SALARY & JOB TYPE

Min. $40,000 - Max. $45,000 - FULL TIME
Compensation based on experience

SEEKING:  EDUCATION/INTERNSHIP COORDINATOR (FT, AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM)

EDUCATION/INTERNSHIP COORDINATOR (FT, AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM) RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate El Puente’ Scholar’s internship program, to include organizing community projects and volunteer opportunities, as well as ensuring students complete all required activities.
  • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of a viable internship program at the El Puente Williamsburg Leadership Center.
  • Provide leadership and direction in the areas of individual assessment, educational choices, career-planning and employment strategies for youth.
  • Plan and conduct workshops focused on career readiness, SAT prep, Regents Prep, and test prep overall.
  • Coordinate & facilitate El Puente’s Academic Support activities for High School students to include tutoring, homework help, project research.
  • Develop lesson plans and skills building workshops around academic subjects, projects that are tied to themes of community awareness, cultural celebrations and events.
  • Responsible for organizing college prep activities and workshops such as college fairs and tours, financial aid workshops, scholarship writing workshops, family info sessions, etc.
  • Keep track of members college application process.
  • Participate in outreach and enrollment activities (i.e. speaking at local schools, churches or community centers, flyering in neighborhood, etc).
  • Serve as liaison to school administrators and other key personnel as well as other community institutions necessary to strengthen El Puente’s program.
  • Work closely with other staff to implement El Puente’s membership process
  • Direct academic support work with high school students.
  • Coordinate the collection/tracking of participants, academic records and progress reports to develop academic action plan.
  • Work with other staff to develop and facilitate structure to support students’ transition to upper grades. For example; understanding common Core standards, graduation requirements, time management, etc.
  • Communicate with teachers and school counselors about the academic development of the members.
    Establish and maintain consistent communication with participants’ parents (by phone, mail, email).
  • Supervise volunteer tutors and assist in supervising interns.
  • Network on the program’s behalf by participating in outside professional development activities, enrolling in relevant professional associations, and doing outreach to other El Puente programs
  • Provide general staff and logistical support for program event coordination.
  • Attend all general EI Puente and Leadership Center staff meetings and workshops.
  • Conduct evaluations on members and interns

This program focuses on the integration of human rights consciousness and artistic development, that allows its members to experience their creative potential while learning about social responsibility.

El Puente’s Membership Model requires youth to commit to active participation within a structure designed to meet their varied developmental needs. Membership is the foundation of its mentoring & youth development programs, a process rooted in the organization’s mission to nurture and inspire leadership for peace & justice. 

This position: As a tutor you are to facilitate homework help and provide content-specific academic support in math and science to help students move towards academic and intellectual mastery (1-on-1 or in small groups). This position is scheduled to begin during the fall 2017 academic school year, with a minimum requirement of 10-12 hours per week, with a starting rate of $15 an hour.  

  • Individuals must have the ability to teach middle and high school in all general subjects including  math or science.
    • High School science include but are not limited to  (chemistry, biology, earth science, and physics).
    • High School math subjects include but are not limited to (algebra, geometry, and trigonometry).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Encourage youth to improve or strengthen their academic skills, as well as teach youth effective approaches to studying.  
  • Create a test-prep curriculum.
  • Coordinate with program and school-based staff for portfolio presentations and exam prep.
  • Collaborate with other program staff to facilitate college prep activities such as interview skills, essay writing, application completion, site visits, etc. 
  • Design/coordinate presentations individually or collaboratively with facilitators within and across all EP programs.
  • Perform administrative duties such as attending supervision/professional development meetings, maintaining attendance reports and conducting youth program evaluations.
  • Participate in a team approach of mentoring youth through a membership support process.
  • Participate in El Puente’s human rights activities.
  • Spanish language skills desirable.
