The Green Light District’s educational platform supports academic and intellectual attainment as well as creative expression objectives for every residents in the community.
We work closely with local public schools, including but not limited to PS 84 Jose de Diego Magnet School for Visual Arts, the El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice, and Middle School 50 as part of the DOE's Community Schools Initiative, to build a leadership network of parents, teachers, administrators, and students who support community-directed and responsive public education in the neighborhood. El Puente GLD works to place young people in community-based projects and internships through the El Puente Scholars Program and is an annual placement for 1-2 interns from El Puente Academy for Peace & Justice. Educational partnerships are key to all areas of Green Light District projects, leading to school-based collaborations such as the NurtureNature Community Mural (2012), painted with PS 84 students, El Puente Academy students, and Los Muralistas de El Puente.
